noah - 17.10.26

Hey Noah, I say to him as we read the chapter.  Why don’t you say something?  Anything…. God says, I’m destroying the world, and you don’t even ask “Why?” He gives details of how to build an arc and you do it.  Don’t even ask, “What color?”

I don’t understand how Noah was a righteous man.  It just says that he was good – in his generation – meaning compared to the others.  So it only took ten generations for the evolution of humankind to ruin the entire population, and God had to wipe everything out – even the penguins.  So the first part of the Bible is Creation and the second part is Destruction.

Perhaps it was because I heard a Rabbi talk about how wonderful it was to get married on the weekend Noah is being read that I began to question the fragility of the creation of the universe.  I’d like to get married on a more positive note because I can’t just focus on the fact that Noah’s son was the beginning.  And anyway at some point the tree combines with the offspring of Cain – so it isn’t really pure…

maybe next week will be better…
