October 7 and Medicine - 7.10.26
For the second time in my history in NY, I was persuaded to go to Emergency for my crazy heart and some minor symptoms. And only when I was released did my mind start to absorb the experience and the problem with protocol. Yes, I heart was racing. yes I was having chills and fever. Yes this could be signs of sepsis. But something told me that there were other things that needed to be added to the list. One, that someone needed to discuss things with me, to elicit information perhaps not included in the list of questions. like, for instance, that I had been given a flu shot a week before, and when Ezi got the shot he had a delayed reaction after a week…
but i went through the whole procedure, with a series of young doctors checking carefully if I had had a stroke, or a blood clot, or maybe memory loss.
And the doctor who asked me whether I had left something behind in my country – assuming medications – just responded to my answer ‘fear’ with a smile.
