i was on a webinar from the National Library – American writers and Israeli writers talking about what it’s like to write about oct 7.  One point that I wish we had time to develop was the idea that the language used to discuss even basic things about the war now is strange.  Say – the word ‘hostage’.  There isn’t a proper word to describe it, but there are 134 people in Gaza who were grabbed from their beds or a dance party, some were soldiers and some were babies and some were girls and some were old men.  And they are going to be traded – maybe – for thousands of terrorists who are serving sentences in prison.  What can you call them?  And what can you say about trading them?  Are they exchanged? Are they redeemed?  Are they freed?  releaseed?  found?

It’s no joke – we’re just going on and on.  We killed hundreds of Hamas and Jihad fighters in Shifa and protected the 300 patients and doctors, and found serious war material all over the hospital.  One announcer was going through the footage of weapons in the maternity ward in the cupboards, the medicine cabinet, and even the ceiling,  and then she added “all you need for an easy birth.”

But none of this is bringing us any closer to the hostages, who are being sold and resold to different tribes.  The girls will all be giving birth in a few months, and the men have probably lost all sense of being human.

.Yesterday we read 1 Samuel 4- the defeat of  the israelites with more than 10, 000 men lost and the arc lost to the Philistines.  It’s a good reminder that we don’t always win, and we shouldn’t risk everything we have because we think we’re right.

And on Temple Mount today the men were chanting “Khaibar, Khaibar, ya yahud,”  a reminder of the ‘battle’ of 628 when the Moslem army slaughtered a community of Jews in an oasis in khaibar.

see? I’m still here.  I just haven’t figured out how to fix the graphics.  Just hang on a bit.  I spent the entire day chatting with bots who screwed everything up worse and now I’m back to where I was – a mess.  but I feel like I’m getting closer to finding the line in the configuration that will make everything okay again.  not great, but okay.  The real bummer was when the guy screwed everything up and the site went down, he said the server has to be paid 50 bucks to restore it to its original messed-up condition.  After some haggling or maybe a different bott taking over, the site was restored to its messed-up state.

But that’s not what you came here to read about.

Because I’ve been trying to escape from reality with birthday celebrations, I haven’t gone crazy that my site has suddenly become impossible and if I try to follow the advice of the server the site goes down.  I am also not going to a demonstration tonight.  The two things are connected – Just like my repeated pleas to the server bring me back to my beginning of my journey, my repeated pleas to the government get me into the same mess I’ve been in from the beginning.  We just encourage Sinwar to rape and torture those hostages a little more, to kill some more, to starve his people a little more.  which just makes the rest of the world hate us a little more…

But don’t worry – I’ll find a way out of the computer cycle and be back on line with a perfect site soon.
