The Desert Breeds Monotheists - 3.14.25

My history professor proclaimed this one day and it always stuck in my mind.  But lately I have been noticing that it is tragedy and isolation that does it.  More and more the victims and their relatives have been talking about God and religion.  So when a close relative called to tell me that God is taken care of her, that he gives her everything she needs and wants, and so far and so on.  It connected in my mind suddenly to all the people I’ve interrupted lately reading the Book of Psalms.  My grandfather would be so proud and happy – he was the Psalm singer of his synagogue.  But it goes against all the character of the Israeli society which always believed in the separation of religion and government.  at least in our declaration of independence.

  1. So many thoughts (maybe questions, too) come to mind reading your post here.
What in the world is going on?! Trump & buddies have been foisting a new paradigm of government, run by the ‘religious right’, upon us for a while…not good for Jews nor Christians alike. But that Israel is re(?)turning to a more spiritual awareness of gratitude toward Hashem does not seem foreign or wrong to me, granted all the miracles, despite horrific odds, in its history. With all the worst of evils surrounding Israel at this very moment, I remember Psalm 22:3. I also notice that the Black churches in the U.S. have really increased their focus on unfiltered praise and thanks. I am seeing this everywhere in the media…and amongst my fellow residents in this senior citizen complex. Something about this seems so right.?! Are we getting ready for Moshiach?! And why are we looking to have a king, for G-d’s sake?! Maybe we need one.?!…but ‘democracy’ and ‘freedom of choice’ have been the norm for so long. ? I love Israel…and I love that the returned hostages and families are finding joy in their hearts, despite what they endured.
