i may buy a tent - may 5, 2024

I have heard so many opinions about the river and the sea in the past few days that I find the threads impossible to unravel.

First, of course no one is happy about the war.  But some people really think it’s simple.  Shoot them all.  or Make a single state. or go back to Poland.  (That one really gets me.  My brother reminds me that our grandparents had a big house on the marketplace before they were killed and the place was bombed, destroyed – I should have kept the key)

In any case, I’m lost as far as making a logical and satisfying organization to all the arguments – and certainly no solution.

I look at the faces of the demonstrators and think how wonderful it would be to talk with them like human beings. not about politics – but mabe about shoes, cooking, horses, etc.  It’s not like there are good people against bad people and we have to get rid of the bad people.  They’re all good and they deserve attention.   how can they all be made to understand that simple fact?  everybody’s right.  now let’s see how we can all be satisfied.

A peace tent.  yes. that will do it. sure.

  1. Karen,

I am very angry at what is happening on the college campuses which is surprising because when I was in high school in the 1970’s I always felt bad that I had missed the 1960’s. I imagined myself right there in the thick of it, summer of love etc. But what is happening now is very different.

From the start a genuine ceasefire movement would have also demanded that Hamas release the hostages. Then we could have had a ceasefire debate with people of good faith on both sides. But instead these protestors could care less about the hostages and are even denying the attrocities Hamas committed on Oct 7th. A good book to read about the 1960’s and how it differs from today is The Sixties by Todd Gitlin. I plan a reread and I wish he was still with us. He would have alot to say about these times worth listening to.

I hope considering all the craziness going on in NYC you had some good times in NY. And I always enjoy reading your posts you have such a great blog which is a major reason I decided to create and sustain my blog in 2015. I will be forever grateful.

    Kathy
