The only prep on my mind is the one for my colonoscopy on tuesday.  The instructions are so complicated they can only be followed by those who are anal retentive, but their purpose is the opposite.  Anyway as soon as I’m finished with that we’ll start cooking.  then maybe I’ll share a recipe for my potato kugel.

Did you ever really understand the principle of “An eye for an eye” – We’re not only mourning the loss of three very important men – men who contributed a great deal to those around them – but we’re wondering what the hell could be accomplished by killing and injuring a bunch of peaceniks.  The situation of the people of Jenin could not be helped by the number of terrorist attacks.  The tens of thousands of workers who snuck through the fence knew that the holes in the fence were intentional – and now will be ‘repaired.’  The family of the terrorist who, apparently helped plan the attack, will have their house blown up and they will have to continue to hide out or be arrested for a long time.  And Dizengoff Street will continue to be the center of pleasure for Tel Aviv. What possible good could it have done?

Tel Aviv University mourns the loss of Tomer Morad, a fourth-year student in the School of Mechanical Engineering, and Eitam Megini, a third-year student of Psychology and Computer Science, who died in the terrorist attack in Tel Aviv last night.

The university extends its deepest condolences to the mourning families.

We send strength to Tomer and Eitam’s classmates and professors, who have lost two much-valued and beloved students and friends.

This is a moment of trial for all of us at Tel Aviv University and in Israel.

Together we will stand against the wave of terrorism; together we will safeguard our community’s resilience and unity.

The morning after.  The purpose of a terror attack like this is to disrupt the sense of security of the population, and it works.  The two Kfar Saba boys killed last night were not at all the only victims.  The places in Tel Aviv and Jaffa will never mean the same thing = the Jaffa theater where I appeared last month, will now be the place where the terrorist was killed.  Dizengoff will always carry a sense of suspicion and sadness as well as its center of joy.  My grndchildren will have nightmares for years.  But we have no choice – we will keep calm and carry on.

The search is on for a terrorist who has killed 2 and injured 18 others – In the west bank they’re already celebrating, but we’re locked in and checking on everyone we know in the neighborhood.  My grandchildren are all with different friends in the area, and their parents are stuck in a theater.  Poor dog has no one to take him out or feed him – and who knows when the killer will be caught.  Would love to share better news with you – but I’ve still got friends I haven’t been able to reach and I gotta go.

So after great procrastination, Oren’s decision to have knee surgery was realized and he went in at 3 this afternoon.  By 8:30 he was up and smiling and tomorrow he goes home – walking, not hopping – with crutches.  I was pretty amazed – I’d seen him in surgery years ago and it wasn’t a pretty sight.  The Herzlia Medical Center is a little piece of heaven and has restored my faith in the wonder of modern medicine.

I’d also spent the morning failing – once again – to have the proper papers signed properly for the Israel Association of Writers in English, and I was wiped out.   I even wrote a blog about the good cop-bad cop in the bank,  the teller who okayed everything in the first half-hour and the supervisor who nixed it all in the second half-hour.  But I was too tired to save it properly, was in a hurry to pick up the patient and take him to the hospital, and lost it.   It was a good sketch I seem to remember.
