Tel Aviv Diary -
October 18-22, 2012 - Karen Alkalay-Gut October 18, 2012
We had a late lunch at the Beta Cafe today, a place I have no endearment for because of its limited menu and unexciting food, but is convenient. And there are always some kind of celebrity grazing. Some of them are trying to be incognito, and some just don't care. But I wasn't watching them anyway. And I was distracted by a mother shouting to her child over the mayonnaise he was eating with a spoon. "Do you know how many calories there are in that?" And I remembered the paper yesterday that revealed the calorie count we did on the people of Gaza -
The "diet" paper.
The inhumanity of it shocked me, and no amount of afternoon beer could let me forget. October 19, 2012 The cardboard bike. All week long I've been hearing about how it will change the world.
October 19, 2012 I keep thinking about a place to launch my book = Layers = I
've put it off long enough. finally decided on 12th night, January 6 at papas. Orit's baby will be born by then, and still portable. and it will still be early enough for the second one to be up and the other kids can make is/ Got to get some friends in it/ October 20, 2012 The Estelle is on its way to Ashdod, not of its own accord, and I don't know what to think. Our government says we are in the right, and I am sure that the fear of losing control over what goes into Gaza has some justification, since we are being shelled almost daily. On the other hand, as
Gush Shalom says:""Even while the Prime Minister is considering bringing to his cabinet's approval the report of Judge Edmond Levy, which asserts that the Palestinian territories are 'not occupied', Netanyahu and his ally and rival Ehud Barak are ordering the Naval Commandos on a stupid resort to force, demonstrating for the whole world to see that there is an occupation, and that the State of Israel is extending this occupation into international waters in the Mediterranean." These are not strangers to us - there are people I know on this boat, including one at whose wedding I danced. I care about them, as I care about the people in Gaza, as well as the people on our side of the border. And it seems to me - over and over - that talking is the only answer. October 21, 2012 Tel Aviv is one of the world's top three most innovative cities. At least that's what Ha'aretz said, but the link to the voting in the Wall Street Journal doesn't work. Suspicious, isn't it. But I am not one to trust computers. My own little assus is still in the repair shop, and I am working on the Dell that overheated and died many times on me in the past. Is it possible that the Iranians are after me? ME?
