waiting for the end. there's got to be a war soon - a big war. sometimes i'm paranoid and fearful but sometimes i'm right.

my Yiddish/Hebrew book is out. i've never worked so hard on a book in my life. and i felt it had to be written. not because of it's contents but because of its language.

Apparently Putin calmed everything down. Apparently the Americans are not going to be involved and we're dependent on Russia to keep quiet. This makes me very uneasy. But Trump has been quiet on all things lately. maybe he started sleeping at night.

i don't

An interview with me today about the Israel Association of Writers in English got me remembering the good old days. It started in 1980 and the government was pumping money into the Federation of Writers’ Unions. – Arabic, Hebrew, French, Spanish, Russian, Yiddish, Polish, Rumanian, German, English, and a few other languages totally 12. The idea was multiculturalism and every language had a journal of its own, and many published books of their writers. We all had an office in the Writers’ house, and published translated material in Hebrew in our journal. Book fairs, conferences, weekends, readings – we had so much in common and we were so different. One thing we all knew was that we were on the outside. Except for the Hebrew writers. I particular remember with pleasure one conference on the Sea of Galilee where we took a tour of the cemetery where the poet, Rachel, was buried, and heard each other and guest speakers in the morning and evening. Most of those organizations have disappeared, and we have little chance to know what the writers are doing.

Netanyahu is wriggling out of the accusations beautifully. he may live through it. and he almost convinced me that we can't continue to exist without him. he certainly convinced himself.

No one is celebrating today. Except all the lovers -

At Abu Hassan today at lunch they brought out the Valentine balloons and even though it was relatively empty they knew it would be crowded in the evening.

Abu Hassan is now Abu Hassan Hinawi and has been for a few years. i haven't been there since Hanawi joined in and it is so much better than i remember. the lunchtime menu is simple and incredibly satisfying - the meat and fish are fresh and tasty. the service is warm and welcoming. why have i stayed away so long?

And now Ezi says that Bibi may not be the first prime minister, but he is working hard on being the last.

The prosecutor says it will take months at least before prosecution is approved and begins. In the mean time how does our prime minister appear before the world? And of course the world is where he prefers to be at the moment. And I'm sure he's more highly motivated than ever to make big moves than ever before.

and of course all of us are preoccupied with what will happen next. Such a precarious situation with our neighbors and dangers all over the world as well. I wouldn't be surprised that the shooter in Florida today wasn't trained by American Nazis. Of course tomorrow what I saw here may prove to be completely wrong, but my feeling is terrible.
